Columbus, Ohio. -- The Board of Directors of The Ohio Hispanic Chambers of Commerce has announced the election of Rafi Rodriguez, current President of the Dayton Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, to the position of Chairman of the Board of the OHCC, effective April 21, 2010. Rodriguez will succeed Gus A. Hoyas, who's term expired in 2010 as Chairman and from the Board of Directors, effective April 21, 2010. After culminating a successful career in the United States Air Force, Rafi Rodriguez retired from military service in 2004 with the rank of Colonel. He then pursued a career as a Financial Advisor and now presides over his own practice: “Rodriguez Financial Strategies, LLC”. His involvement with the Hispanic/Latino community is extensive and goes beyond U.S. borders. Most recently, Rafi Rodriguez served as President of the Puerto Rican Cultural Society of Dayton, as Director of Development of the Dayton Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and since 2009 as President of the Dayton Hispanic Chamber. For his community involvement, he was recognized as the 2003 Hispanic Officer of the Year at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, with the 2007 President’s Volunteer Award (Bronze), with the 2009 LULAC Leadership Award (Dayton Chapter), and as the 2009 Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Advocate of the Year. Rafi Rodriguez Chairman-elect, said: I commend Gus Hoyas for his efforts in bringing together the Latino/Hispanic communities through Ohio to start a dialog about our contributions, our needs, and the impact of the Latino/Hispanic businesses in the economic growth of the greater State of Ohio. Gus set the stage in “assembling the spokes on a wheel”. With the support of the newly elected OHCC board, and the presidents of the Hispanic chambers throughout Ohio, it is my commitment to get the “wheel to take traction and move forward”. “It is an honor to be elected and I thank the Board of Directors for their votes. I will repay their trust through hard work and delivering results for them." he added. Outgoing Chairman - Gus Hoyas said: “I’m very pleased to be passing on the baton to Rafi. I know he’ll do a fine job representing Hispanic businesses in Ohio. This is a crucial time for our members and his leadership skills will be vital to address the many issues that small businesses have to face. I will continue to help him and the Board during the transition." In addition, the Board elected Gary Johnson as Vice Chairman, President of the Toledo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Victoria Nunez as its Secretary, and Vice President of the Columbus Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Aireen Aguilar re-elected as Treasurer for the Ohio Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. "OHCC is extremely fortunate to have the leadership and support of many dedicated and talented leaders from our state on our Board of Directors,” said Gus Hoyas outgoing President / Chairman of the OHCC.
